What should you take to your first family law appointment?
To ensure you get the most of your
first free consult, we recommend that you write out a list to provide to your
solicitor providing the following information (where relevant to your
individual situation) –
- Each parties’ full name, date of birth, residential
address, email address and telephone number.
- Important relationship dates, such as the date of
cohabitation, marriage, separation or divorce.
- The full names and dates of births of minor children.
- The current parenting arrangements in place.
In property matters:
- A full list of assets owned by each party, for
example real estate, bank accounts, superannuation and motor vehicles and their
estimated values.
- Details of any liabilities of each party, for
example home loans, credit card debts or personal loans.
- Information pertaining to each parties’ occupation
and income.
- Superannuation value at cohabitation and now.
- Details of assets and liabilities owned by each
party prior to cohabitation.
- Any other relevant details, such as an inheritance,
gifts or compensation payments received during the relationship.
